Boiler System Power Flushing — Complete Procedure Guide

Published: July 21, 2026 — CANRO Heating & Cooling — Greater Vancouver, BC

What Power Flushing Does

Power flushing uses a high-flow pump to circulate cleaning chemicals and water through the entire heating system at high velocity. This dislodges and flushes out sludge, rust particles, and debris that have accumulated in radiators and pipework over years of operation.

When Power Flushing Is Needed

Signs your system needs flushing: radiators have cold spots at the bottom (sludge settles there), some radiators do not heat up despite proper bleeding, the boiler takes longer to heat the home, or after installing a new boiler on old pipework (always recommended).

Cost and Process

Power flushing costs $400-800 for a typical Vancouver home with 8-12 radiators. The process takes 4-8 hours. A magnetic filter is recommended after flushing to capture future debris. Most boilers benefit from flushing every 5-8 years.

Safety Reminder

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide or believe there is an immediate danger, leave the property and contact emergency services or the appropriate gas emergency authority. Do not remain inside — exit the building immediately and call for help from outside.
