What the Ignition Module Does
The ignition module controls the spark or hot surface ignitor that lights the burner. It also monitors the flame sensor to confirm ignition. A failed module prevents the boiler from firing at all.
Signs of Ignition Module Failure
The boiler clicks (ignitor sparking) but the burner does not light, the ignitor glows but does not reach ignition temperature, the boiler attempts ignition 3-5 times then locks out, or the ignitor does not spark at all despite the boiler calling for heat.
Replacement Cost
Ignition module replacement costs $350-600 including the module ($150-350) and labour ($150-250). Some boilers combine the ignition module with the control board — in that case, the entire assembly must be replaced at a higher cost.
